about
Past the halfway point of August, while walking the dog through the neighborhood, despondent because I had NO IDEAS for an alien song, I came across a poster taped with masking tape on a concrete wall, advertising "Songs for Sale" by what may or may not prove to be the next songwriting duo of our times, "Taco & Bee", and a phone number to call. With prices like "$1 for a quick tune, $5 for a 2 - 5 minute song, or $7 for anything longer than that", I figured I had nothing to lose, and made the phone call, leaving a message requesting a song about Aliens.
I was very curious about this endeavor and wanted more than just a song, I wanted to know who is Taco and Bee? And are they any good?? But I couldn't get more than a text return with cryptic answers. I asked that more details be provided after an exchange was made; money for the song + Who Are You deets. They agreed.
When the song arrived- an audio recording of the lyrics being sung by the songwriter, I was thrilled! Not only was the song very fine, and the voice lovely, but I also sense, from over 30 years of youth work and knowing the sound of a young child's voice, that the individual was fairly young! I finally got the back and forth texting I wanted for asking questions, and it was revealed that the songwriter was my 11 year old across the street neighbor!
That led to a phone call, where we discussed licensing, publishing, and agreed on terms of our exchange, and ultimately leading to this unique collaboration, and our submission to August's alien prompt! We both hope you enjoy it! The song, and lyrics are included below to Our Alien Friends.

A talented musician and a long haired male librarian student, Kevin MacDowell soon discovered upon graduation from IU's
School of Library & Information Sciences that the best way to get hired by a library was at 45 minutes at a time, as a children's performer extraordinaire; as Kid Kazooey, the Singin' & Swingin' Librarian! That was 16 years ago (seems like 116!), and the rest is history!...more
